April 20, 2022 marks the 13th United Nations Chinese Language Day and the 3rd International Chinese Language Day. The date for the Chinese Language Day was selected from Guyu (“Rain of Millet”), in Chinese lunar calendar, to commemorate the day when Cangjie invented the characters in legend. Making active response to the activity initiative of “Chinese Language: Together for a Bright Future” initiated by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), Chongqing Technology and Business University joined hands with Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin (RMUTR), to hold the “Chinese Talent Video Competition for International Students”. Through online channels, teachers and students of the CTBU and CLEC experienced the unique charm of Chinese together in various forms, such as singing Chinese songs, reciting poems and giving speeches.
On the afternoon of April 20th, the competition was held in the Smart Classroom of Chongqing Technology and Business University through online live broadcast. ZHANG Yi, Dean of CTBU International School, expressed in his speech that Chinese language is one of the oldest, richest and most beautiful languages in the world. Owing to Chinese language, such a carrier, the profound Chinese culture can be long-standing and well-established and carry forward. This session of International Chinese Day is held to promote more international students to feel the charm of Chinese culture and the beauty of Chinese language through various forms.
In this competition, one first prize, three second prizes, five third prizes and several outstanding prizes were decided by the on-site judges and student judges. The significance of this activity is that it can provide an opportunity for international students studying Chinese to show their learning achievements, stimulate their interest in learning Chinese and their passion for Chinese culture.
Since the “Overseas Language Center” jointly established by CTBU and RMUTR and officially put into operation at the end of 2020, CTBU and RMUTR have carried out substantial cooperation through online Chinese courses, cultural courses, online winter camp activities, etc. The holding of this International Chinese Language Day will enhance the exchanges and cooperation between the two universities, promote the cultural exchanges between China and Thailand, and make positive contributions to the development of diversified languages and cultures in the world.
